
Scholarship Information & Instructions
Welcome to the Dr. Darcel Y. Brady scholarship portal! This scholarship was established in 2026 in memory of Dr. Darcel Y. Brady, Executive Director of the Center for Re-Creation and Family Training (CRAFT). Dr. Brady was a devoted teacher, professor, and mentor of students. She loved math, playing the piano, and was passionate about education, serving in church, and on the CRAFT board.
The recipient of this scholarship will receive assistance for undergraduate college courses (tuition, fees, books). This scholarship may be awarded each year, pending fund availability. The scholarship award amount ranges from $2,000 – $2,500. The scholarship will be awarded during the annual CRAFT Scholarship Award Ceremony which takes place in-person (may be held virtually for safety reasons) in August.
Please see the below eligibility, application requirements, online application form and checklist. Applications can only be submitted through this application portal, March 1 through May 31 at 11:59 pm, Central time. This application portal will remain active during this time period only.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be a current active Student Assistance Fund (SAF) recipient
- Applicants must be a college junior, heading into senior year at the time of the application
- Applicants must have a declared (officially listed) major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math | Music or Education
- Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Only undergraduate students may submit applications
Scholarship Requirements
(All general scholarship requirements must be met)
- An official transcript must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee by the applicant’s current college or university to this email address dybs@craftinc.org. The official transcript must be received by May 31, 11:59 pm Central time.
- Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced 500 to 1,000-word biographical essay detailing – who was the most influential person in your life that encouraged you to pursue higher education and why, why you selected this major/profession, what you have contributed thus far to your field of study, your plans for continued professional development or lifelong learning, and your plans to support/give back to your community after graduation
- Two current recommendations: One letter from a professor/instructor, specifically from your major, (no student/graduate teaching assistants); and one from a representative within your field of study/major (professional association leader, placement coordinator, teaching mentor, internship manager, etc.)
- Recommendations must be typed, dated, signed, on letterhead, addressed to the CRAFT Scholarship Committee and emailed directly from the writer (from the writer’s email address) to dybs@craftinc.org by May 31 at 11:59 pm Central time.
Requirements of Scholarship Recipient
- The scholarship recipient(s) must attend CRAFT’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony which takes place in-person (may be held virtually for safety reasons) in August. If awardees cannot attend, they are expected to send a thank you card or letter to CRAFT that will be read at the ceremony.
- The scholarship recipient must participate in at least one CRAFT event or volunteer activity between September of this year and August of next year. All student participants within the CRAFT organization are made aware of upcoming CRAFT activities, it is the responsibility of the scholarship recipients to inform CRAFT which activity/event they will volunteer for.

- Completed all sections of the application in this application portal
- Written a biographical essay (using the criteria listed above) and uploaded it as an attachment to the application
- Submitted a transcript request asking your college/university to email your transcript to dybs@craftinc.org by May 31, 11:59 pm Central time
- Informed and reminded both recommendation letter writers to email their letters to dybs@craftinc.org by May 31, 11:59 pm Central time (using the recommendation criteria listed above)
